Today’s Topic: Daily Success Rituals

If you want to up-level your success, implement a daily success ritual that you do first thing every morning. The most successful people do this. It sets up your success and sets up your day to be productive, as well as getting your mindset on track right way.

You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.  — John C. Maxwell

Most people that I know, have something that they do. The question is- how consistent is the ritual? During the holidays, people often set aside this type of positive habit because life gets hectic. However, this is the time to make sure that you practice it. When you know life will be busier than usual, your daily practice will help keep you steady, centered, and focused.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”  Aristotle

My daily practice is writing in a journal every morning. I take my journal with me on vacation and I even took it with me when I was a chaperone for a middle school retreat. I recently enjoyed reviewing my journal entries from my Trans-Atlantic cruise and Europe trip last spring. I was able to travel back in time to those moments and remember how excited I was to go to Paris and how blessed I felt for lighting candles and saying a prayer in Notre Dame Cathedral as well as churches in Lisbon. I also remembered how beautiful it was to spend time with one of my clients in England and to speak to her group of business women.

When I complete my daily practice, I stay calm and happy, no matter what is going on around me. Your ritual is whatever is important to you. It could be going for a run, meditating, praying, writing, yoga, or something else. You could also combine a few things. I like to light candles before I start writing.

“Meditate. Breathe consciously. Listen. Pay attention. Treasure every moment. Make the connection.” – Oprah Winfrey.

What is your daily success ritual? If you have gotten out the habit, renew your commitment. You will be happy and thankful for this success habit. Please comment below.

  1. Ahhhh…. love your ritual for success. I have attempted to journal many times but it gets dropped along the wayside.
I wonder if “showing up” for oneself with accountability to journal would be a key to infuse this as a daily success habit….?
A nice pen and notebook would help ?

    1. Hi Robyn,
I do buy very nice journals and pens. People also send me journals from around the world, because they know its “My thing”. It helps make it feel special to write in a beautiful book. What got me going in terms of keeping the habit was to start my journaling every day by writing down what I was thankful for. , plus it put me in the right frame of mind for the day because I started with appreciation and gratitude.
      Blessings,
      Sheri

  2. It is really a nice and helpful piece of information. I am happy that
you shared this useful information with us. Please keep us informed like this.
    Thank you for sharing.

  3. At one time when I found that I was feeling negative and not very happy with my job, I started a gratitude journal and boy did it make a difference. Somewhere along the way though, I stopped doing it. Your blog is a good nudge to get started with this again and rather than feeling I need to just write what I am grateful every day, perhaps pick a different subject every week or month. That would help keep it fresh.

    1. A lot of journals now have prompts too- in case you like some inspiration. One of my favorite clients gave me Karen Sahlmenson’s Be Happy journal last year. I started writing in when I went on my Europe trip.

  4. Having just been to a museum (The Museum, in Kitchener, Ontario) to see what the University of Waterloo and the the industry associated with Quantum Physics reminds me what you quoted John Maxwell: You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.
It may seem strange but the truth of Quantum mechanics is that it only appears when being observed.
Maybe that is what is happening in our lives, we only see the truth when we are in action. And besides I have read many of Johns book and have a personal friend who has been working with him for 2 years. He is a business and living genius.

    1. I have some of his books too. I love how he focuses on character in a similar way to Stephen Covey. Interesting comment on seeing the truth when we are in action. Tom, you always bring a new dimension to the conversation, literally:)

  5. Sheri,
I meditate each morning. I have some special guided meditations or ones with special music. I am by Wayne Dyer is a fav. Sometimes I just google “guided meditation _____” Where the blank is healing or energy or seeking higher self or relaxation.
I used to exercise in the morning and go to the gym but I moved that to the afternoons because of work and it is now cooler in the evenings so I can walk!
