The Lexington History Museum is the first museum in Kentucky to deploy Virtual Reality and is creating a library of its past exhibits. The hope is to have the entire past exhibits readily available to the public anywhere, anytime through the use of the latest technologies. Currently four exhibits have been documented and now the Lexington History Museum is seeking your help to purchase their own 3D Virtual Reality camera and technology package. By owning their own equipment they can control their future and ensure that the collection is properly documented.
Lexington History Museum currently has a small office and exhibit space which only allows it to display a fraction of their collection at any one time. Due to circumstances beyond their control the museum was forced to quickly vacate their old exhibit space. The collection is currently housed in three separate locations and is being painstakingly inventoried by a few dedicated volunteers. By supporting this project you are allowing more and more of the collection to be appreciated by the public.
Lexington’s history is unique and diverse. Educating residents and visitors about local and regional history and shared traditions is critical to our sense of community, its identity, and helps to tell Lexington’s story. History can and should be used as a selling point for a community. Recognizing and promoting our history can help to educate children and adults about their heritage, increase and sustain tourism, build community engagement and drive economic development.
