Azalea (Hiatt Regency Classics Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 219 ratings

'Tis better to have loved and lost . . . or is it?

To safeguard her future, orphaned Azalea's grandfather arranges her marriage—in name only, of course, as she is not yet of age—to the son of his oldest friend, Lord Glaedon. Azalea, however, falls head over heels in love with her handsome new husband with all the impetuousness and romanticism of her youth before he sails back to England mere days after the wedding. When she learns of his death at sea, she is devastated.

Six years later, Azalea honors her grandfather's dying wish by sailing for England herself to recover her inheritance. Once there, she is stunned to discover that Christian, the beloved husband she has believed dead all this time, is quite definitely alive . . . but seems to have no memory whatsoever of their marriage, or of her! Even worse, he is betrothed . . . to her cousin. Can Azalea possibly force Christian—now the illustrious Earl of Glaedon—to remember the truth? Or must she somehow win him away from her dazzlingly beautiful cousin to prevent him from committing bigamy—and breaking her heart again?

Azalea was given in marriage at the age of 13 to his best friends son Christian Glaedon. They had planned that this was a marriage in name only for them fit some years. Azalea is smitten by Christian Right away he leaves her right after the wedding to return to England.they get the news that the ship was lost at sea and father and son died. Six years later she goes to London after the death of her grandfather. She is to stay with her aunt and cousin and claim her inheritance. She also has an untrustworthy uncle in London. She is shocked to find out her cousin is engaged to her husband. He did not die in the ship wreck but lost his memory of her and the wedding.you should read this book to see if Azalea finds happiness .She will hurt her cousin if she tells the truth. She does not want him to commit bigamy and she still loves him. A book that keeps your interest the whole time.you also will find out the true character of her uncle what plans he has up his sleeve. I have read this author before and plan on do so again.

There were many things that I liked about this book. I absolutely could not put it down. The way the author set the stage for this story was absolutely brilliant. I cried for the characters and their doomed young love. I felt so horrible for Azalea's poor grandfather. I admired Azalea for the courage that she displayed when she crossed the ocean to England. Then, in the blink of an eye, the carefully constructed tale just fell apart.
Azalea went from being brave and intelligent to being a dumb milksop. Her poor decisions and complete lack of common sense floored me. Not to mention the fact that on occasion she outright lied. I kept on reading because I really wanted the young girl from America to get her happy ending. It was amazing to me that the other characters were not feeling disillusioned and betrayed by the end of the book. This is actually one time where I think a third act breakup would have been appropriate!

This author has a new fan. Loved this story from beginning to end. Engaging characters, charming descriptions, evil kin, and love, love, love. I've read thousands of HRs (yup, addicted!) and this one stands as strong IMO as Katherine LeVeque, Donna Fletcher, and Johanna Lindsey. Thank you for taking me on a fantastic journey with this amazing read!

I had read one previous Hiatt book and loved it! Because that book was free from descriptive body parts and clean I purchased several more. Regrettably this story was not free of a couple of descriptive intimate moments. I will be returning other books. I would have appreciated fair warning this author includes sex in her stories. Some prefer them however I do not. Sadly I enjoyed her storylines in the two books I read.

I got involved right from start and the story moves briskly. Lots of twists. I like this author she’s very creative. I could have lived without the sex scene. I always find them implausible in Regencies.

Loved this book for the plot and the characters. The authors transitioning of the characters interactions was done with subtlety and style. The dialog was everything I hoped for when I purchased this book. It's a great read, I truly enjoyed every word of it, couldn't put it down.

Azalea's strong and courageous character along with her intelligence and show of compassion make this book enjoyable. The added history of England's society and her ability to thwart it made it all the more interesring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heroine with mental limitations
Reviewed in Australia on May 2, 2020
This is one of those books where the heroine Azalea acts with all the foresight of a guinea-pig. In the interests of driving a fantastical plot, Azalea abandons all common sense. When she is reunited with the husband she thought was dead, she inexplicably decides to keep their marriage a secret. Even when Azalea discovers that her amnesiac husband is engaged to her cousin, she stays silent. Instead she tries to woo her husband away from her cousin. .

While the plot is overwrought, in the hands of a more competent author it could have been believable. Sadly it’s not at all believable. Not even enjoyably fluent writing can save this mess.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the early books!

Sadly this author seems to have gone from sweet and clean stories to feeling that she has to add lust and panting to pad out her writing. What a shame!
