Playing Golf in Orange: Where To Play and Where To Stay

We spend a lot of time in Orange and my beloved husband Paul is often found on the local courses. So I thought I’d ask him to share what he’s learned.

If you’re planning a trip to the Central Wst , with or without the kids, then here’s his scoop on where to play golf in Orange during your stay.

Social Golf In Orange

By Paul Anderson

Social golf in the city of Orange is easy to arrange for non-members and visitors and is reasonably priced.

There are two 18 hole golf courses in Orange, each is conveniently located no more than a 10-minute drive from the Visitors Information Centre. I took advantage of some recent fair weather winter conditions to play all courses “socially”.

I am a high handicapper and found all the courses enjoyable.

I played on afternoons during the week, when the courses were quiet, and had no difficulty rocking up and getting straight on.

Please check the respective websites or call the friendly pro shops beforehand to double-check social golf is available to suit your own schedule.

Prices vary slightly from course to course. The cost to play nine holes ranges from $22 to $30.

Wentworth Golf Course

This is a beautiful course that can be demanding. Mark Twain is attributed with the quote that golf is a good walk spoiled.

You can tour the course on their website and you will see it is a good walk with rewarding views and great golf holes.

It is hilly country, up and down, and as a “hit and hoper” I enjoyed the blind tee shots on holes 8 and 12.

Duntryleague Golf Club – hole 14

Duntryleague Golf Club

I found myself under trees frequently on this historic course, having strayed. You can typically recover and play out however.

The lush grass on the wide fairways offer good lies for those mid iron shots into the green (or through the back of it!). Good luck hitting the greens on holes like the 14th.

You can tour the course on their website, and check out the funny and all too accurate hole by hole description. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.
