The weasel was either very hungry, very daring – or just very surprised. A photographer has snapped a weasel in flight, after its attempt to eat a woodpecker twice its size resulted in the bird taking off, weasel in tow.

The shot was taken this week when Martin Le-May was walking with his wife Ann through Hornchurch Country Park in East London. He was specifically on the lookout for green woodpeckers, when he realised a weasel had spotted one first.
