Have you survived? The season goes on!!
We're pretty darned tired from the month that's in it, but there's no rest for the wicked, or the Irish or Jirish, wicked or not, because the season continues!
We have tickets to see MARTIN HAYES, the great Clare fiddler, and guitarist DENNIS CAHILL, tomorrow night at Highline Ballroom. These two are just amazing. I once got fiddler Amy Beshara to drive me to see them in a college in NJ the day after I'd had hand surgery, when I was hopped up on pain pills. It was a GREAT concert and that's not only the pills talking. Martin plays like a virtuoso, and the rhythmic, subtle accompaniment of Dennis's guitar makes the music irresistible. It builds to an incredible pitch... I wrote about them for Time Out New York years ago and said this:

County Clare fiddler Martin Hayes brings a precise, Zen-like simplicity to his reels and jigs, supported by the subtle, jazz-tinged guitar of Dennis Cahill. The gentle, percussive taps of both men's heels on the floor energizes and soothes, but this is no New Age chill-out zone—it's pure, simple, spare and intense. Hayes, named Traditional Musician of the Year by Irish broadcaster TG4 in 2008, is to trad fiddlers what Gypsy-swing icon Django Reinhardt is to guitarists—incomparable.
