COLUMBIA, S.C. – Playing their first game in two weeks due to the weather, the Benedict College baseball team swept Lincoln (Pa.) University on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Ray Santiago had a two-run single in the third inning to give Benedict a 3-2 lead and the Tigers were able to hold off the Lions the rest of the way for a 4-2 victory. In the second game, Benedict scored seven runs in the first inning and went on to take a 10-4 victory.
Benedict improves to 3-8 on the season. Lincoln fell to 1-4.
David White had an RBI double to give Benedict its first run in the first game, but Lincoln scored single runs in the second and third for a 2-1 lead. In the third, White hit a two-out single to center field to score
Lashante Grimes and White. Benedict added an insurance run in the sixth inning when
Mitchell Dixon had an infield single to score
Armando Valentin.
Robert Troiano III picked up the win, pitching four innings and giving up two runs.
Yaniel Delgado came in relief and pitched three scoreless innings for the save.
In the second game, the Tigers jumped out to an early big lead. Grimes had an RBI single, while
Mitchell Dixon brought in two runs with a double.
Rodney Beach and
Andrew McCoy had bases-loaded walks to bring in two runs. Benedict added another run in the second for an 8-0 lead. Lincoln scored two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to make it 8-3. Beach pushed across two more runs with a single to center field to make it 10-3 in the fourth inning.
Skyler Sabado picked up the win.
Upcoming bad weather has forced the Tigers to adjust their schedule for the upcoming week. Benedict has cancelled its games against Bluefield State scheduled for Sunday and Monday's scheduled doubleheader against Erie College. Benedict's next game will be a doubleheader against Clark Atlanta on Saturday at noon.
