E-town finishes ninth at Alvernia Spring Invitational

Results

KENHORST, Pa. – All four golfers Elizabethtown sent to the Alvernia Spring Invitational Tuesday shot rounds in the 80s, and while consistent, the Blue Jays could only muster a ninth-place team finish.

The Blue Jays had high hopes after finishing third at Alvernia's fall tournament on the same par 72 course at LedgeRock Golf Club, but unseasonably cold temperatures along with rain and wind, took a toll on E-town's contingent and its competitors alike. Elizabethtown finished with a team score of 346, 58-over par.

Senior Ryan Forbes posted a 12-over 81 to lead the Blue and Gray. He was six-over going out and matched that coming in. Forbes' back nine included birdies on a pair of par 4's, the 271-yard 12th and the 456-yard 15th. If not for a triple bogey on 13th, Forbes would have been looking at his second top 20 finish of the season.

One shot back of Forbes was fellow senior Ryan Laudeman with an 82 (+13). Laudeman worked 11 pars into his round, but finished the day without a birdie. Following three top 10's and top 15 finishes in all five fall tournaments, the Orwigsburg native had struggled to get going in the spring with a 27th at last week's Chestnut Hill Spring Invitational and a 34th Tuesday.

Adam Amspacher carded an 88, which included seven pars. Chuck Johnston added seven pars of his own to finish with an 89 in his spring debut.

Muhlenberg's Dan Eidman figured the course out like no one else could, putting home four birdies for a 2-under par 70 and individual medalist honors. Four shots back in second was Messiah's Justin Sisson.

The Falcons took home the team title by 10 strokes (306-316) over Muhlenberg. Penn State Harrisburg and host Alvernia placed third and fourth, respectively.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Monday, April 6, at the LVC Invitational, and will host the Elizabethtown Invitational at Hershey Country Club East on Thursday, April 9.
