$9.10 per hour is not enough to survive in the City of Portland, especially if you have a family. Our city prides itself on being progressive and innovative, and so it is time we come together as a city to ensure that everyone who lives and works in Portland makes a wage on which they can survive. No one who works should have to live near or below the poverty line. No one who works should have to rely on government assistance programs to survive and feed their children.

Although due to state law our city council can not immediately raise the minimum wage for everyone in the city, there are three things that our Mayor and City Council can, and that we demand they do RIGHT NOW:

1) Increase the minimum wage for city workers to $15 per hour.

2) Require all contractors and subcontractors who work with the city to pay a $15 minimum wage.

3. Commit to an agenda for the Portland City Council that includes actively working at the state level to repeal the restrictions on cities implementing a higher minimum wage than that set by the state.
