Human trafficking: 5 held in Bijnor
BIJNOR: In a major breakthrough, the team of Kolkata police and Crime Investigation Department (CID) nabbed five persons, including a woman from Bijnor, for allegedly trafficking a 15-year-old girl in lieu of money in 2014. The victim hails from Kolkata.
The accused — Uttarakhand-based Kamal Sharma (35) and Sushil Sharma (40) and Bijnor-based Bhishm (40), Shubham Sharma (21) and Chitra Sharma (36) — were apprehended on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at Kiratpur Road.
The accused also include the mother-son duo of Chitra-Shubham.
The CID team has taken the five accused to Kolkata where they will be presented in a court.
The matter came to light after the victim managed to flee Bijnor and reached her hometown in January.
She alleged that the accused ‘bought’ her and confined her to a house in Bijnor. However, she escaped from their clutches and spilled the beans.
Subsequently, a case under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366-A (procuration of a minor girl) has been slapped against the accused in Kolkata, Shailendra Lal, circle officer, Bijnor, told TOI. “After the victim informed the police in Kolkata, Section 376 (rape) was also added to the case. The CID has filed these cases in Kolkata,” added Lal.
Meanwhile, CID officials remained unavailable for comments.
