Operation Unite: Night Four

The Queensland Police Service made a further 85 arrests in the final night of Operation Unite.

The operation is run across Australia and New Zealand and draws attention to the broader implications associated with alcohol misuse in public locations. This includes crime and anti-social behavior, health and injury problems and the subsequent impact on policing.

Overnight, the Brisbane Region recorded 54 arrests, the Central Region had 11, the South Eastern Region had 9, the Northern Region had 7 and the Southern Region had 2.

In total, over the four nights, over 1180 officers were deployed across the state and conducted a total of 17,048 random breath tests and made 490 arrests.

Deputy Commissioner Specialist Operations, Ross Barnett said that the conclusion of Operation Unite shows the Queensland Police Services’ commitment to targeting alcohol fueled violence and anti social behavior in Queensland.

“While these numbers reflect that there are still a significant number of people who are using alcohol and then putting others at risk by driving and becoming involved in altercations, it also shows that our officers are out there tackling this issue head on,” he said.

“We want everyone to enjoy the wonderful lifestyle that Queensland offers, and we want everyone to remember that their actions whilst intoxicated can have negative and long-lasting affects on their and others lives.”

“Operation Unite may have only been four nights, but we hope that through our continued commitment, attitudes of the community will continue to change and we see these numbers drop the next time we run Operation Unite.”

A total of 43 assaults were also recorded across Queensland and 94 people were detected for drink driving offences.
