Opening reception April 18

Artwork by Debbie Anderson will be showcased April 18 through May 9 in Gaslight Art Colony at 516 Archer Ave. in Marshall, Ill. A reception is scheduled 6 to 9 p.m. CDT Saturday, April 18.

Anderson was raised in Terre Haute and graduated from Indiana State University with a major in physical education and a minor in art. She taught 25 years for the Vigo County School Corp., along with coaching cross country, track and volleyball and sponsoring various after-school clubs.

In 1999 Anderson took lessons from Clay County artist Charles Girton to learn the process of wood inlay. Wood became her favorite medium and for six years she designed art for her home, family and friends.

In 2006 Anderson discovered the world of art shows, exhibitions, wood inlay demonstrations and art speaker opportunities. She has since participated in more than 223 art shows, 16 solo exhibitions and 18 art demonstrations. She retired from teaching in May 2014 and decided to enter the Dayton Ohio Woodworkers National Competition in November. She took home second place in Best of Show overall and received a first and second place in her inlaid wood category.

Even through Anderson is 63 years old she can’t seem to slow down her creative being and will most likely continue to make art until the end of her time.
