Falcons Sweep OPSU with 3-0 Senior Day Victory

UT Permian Basin sent out its senior class Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in the team's annual Falcon Strong game at Roden Field.

UTPB ended the weekend without giving up an earned run as five pitchers combined Saturday for the nine inning shutout. Starter Chris Cano won his fourth of the season, throwing five innings of three-hit ball with six strikeouts. John Rodriguez allowed a hit and a walk with a pair of k's in the sixth and seventh innings. Brooks Eady and Fabian Depablos combined to pitch the eighth and Nolan Schattel earned his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

The team's leading hitter Jack Miller put the Falcons on the scoreboard in the third, scoring Jackson Pritchard on a single into center.

Alex Fernandez doubled up the lead in the fourth when he reached on an error to short with two outs as David Fetkenher scored on the play.

Doug Clapperton added the third and final run of the series, scoring from third on a Bryan Van Vranken sacrifice fly to center.

UTPB, winners of eight of nine games, looks to stay hot in its last series of the regular season next week at Lubbock Christian.
