Work Uniform

IMG_3063

From the Navy-provided caption:

Sk3C Sharlene Osler models the new uniform, consisting of dungarees slacks and chambray shirt, which will replace the present aviation coverall worn by members of the Women’s Reserve engaged in work requiring protective covering. The slacks are Navy blue denim with pockets on each side. The cotton chambray shirt is a lighter blue, with short sleeves and one patch pocket. The wrap-around turban is of Navy blue material.

The photo comes from the National Archives.

  1. Do you know the date of this photo of Sharlene Osler?

    1. The National Archives did not include a date with the photo. I believe the dungarees were introduced in 1943 as more women became involved with aviation specialties.

      1. Thanks so much! I have a pair of these dungarees. I will be making a pattern from them (I never damage clothing when patterning them). A date, even approximate, is always helpful. I would have guessed 1945 as their are so many photos of the previous uniform, the coverall, and so few of the dungarees. JoAnn
