In a Venn diagram where one circle represents the set of musicians who have performed with the heavy metal band Metallica, and another circle those who have performed with the erudite early-music maestro Nikolaus Harnoncourt, the number of players who appear in both sets — where the circles overlap — would be vanishingly small.

One who does is Lang Lang, the piano superstar. Mr. Lang, who played with Metallica earlier this year at the Grammy Awards, has a new Mozart album out with Mr. Harnoncourt and the Vienna Philharmonic, and will play more Mozart in New York on Tuesday with Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic. Here he is playing the solo cadenza for the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17 in G.

Recent classical music videos in this series include performances by the pianist Conrad Tao and the trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth.

Later this week, the pianist Frederic Chiu performs his transcription of the Troika from Prokofiev’s “Lieutenant Kije” Suite.
