Four Marauders Reach Double Digit Points in 83-72 Victory over Minnesota Duluth

BISMARCK, N.D. - A quartet of Marauders scoring double digit figures tonight, coupled with Sloan Turner and Hannah Larson bringing in double doubles, ended up turning a close game against the University of Minnesota Duluth into a comfortable 83-72 victory as the University of Mary Women's Basketball team concluded their Alumni Weekend on a high note.

Eight ties and eight lead changes punctuated as the Bulldogs climbed on top early, 16-13, at the first media break. The Marauders responded quickly and decisively as they fired off a 12-2 run that lasted to the second media break and regained the lead, 25-18.

Just like clockwork, however, the Bulldogs came right back with a run of their own as they outscored the Marauders 13-5 through the third media break and took the lead back, 31-30. Both teams exchanged baskets from there and Duluth held onto the lead going into halftime, 41-39.

After the alumnae were introduced at halftime, the Marauders came out firing and took the lead back from the Bulldogs at the first media break, 51-49. Duluth never had the lead after that point.

U-Mary built on their lead with deft ball movement and timely interior play from Larson and Turner, and extended their advantage to 60-56 at the second break. The Bulldogs struggled to get within six after that point as the Marauders built the margin to 71-60 at the third media break and coasted to an 83-72 victory.

Turner ended up with 16 points and 18 rebounds for her third double double of the season. She also finished with four blocks and one assist in 34 minutes on the floor, while shooting 7-for-12 from the field.

Larson earned 14 points and 13 rebounds for her fourth double double of the year. She added four assists and 22 minutes played, while finishing 5-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the line.

Brittney Dietz maintained her momentum from the previous night and finished with 22 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the floor and 9-for-12 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists, swatted away an opponent's shot and nabbed one steal in 39 minutes on the court.

Dani Williams was the last Marauder to finish with double-digit points as she ended the game with 14 on 5-for-6 from the field, 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, and 2-for-2 from the line. She was active on every end of the floor as she also got two steals, two assists and one rebound in 28 minutes as a starter.

Haley Hibbs just missed out on the scoring party but she was still effective in every phase of the game as she finished with nine points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in 35 minutes played.

Rachel Weir and Gabby Wilkinson were billed off the bench tonight and both players proved effective. Weir, although fouling out late in the game, finished with four points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 18 minutes. Wilkinson ended the game with four points, two assists, one rebound, one steal, and one block in 20 minutes.

As a team, U-Mary shot 60 percent from the floor tonight, a feat they haven't accomplished since December 30, 2012, against Dakota State University, where they shot 63.6 percent. The last time they shot this well in a conference game was February 16, 2008, against the University of Minnesota Crookston, where they shot 59.6 percent.

The Marauders (8-12, 6-8 NSIC) will have two more contests in Bismarck next week, starting with a game against Augustana College on Friday, January 30.
