Sinn Fein's claims that State bodies will have access to Ireland's €318m Rural Development Programme (RDP) fund have been dismissed as "ridiculous" by the Department of the Environment.

The party's Ireland South MEP, Liadh Ní Riada, said that RDP funds, traditionally targeted at local development, could now go to State bodies such as Irish Water under Government proposals sent to the EU Commission.
