Hippotherapy scholarships

Tax deductible

My name is John Payne and I am a physical therapist.  My wife Melanie and I have four children, two of which have disabilities.  We moved to a new home five years ago to give our children the opportunity to live and work on a farm.  So we own and operate a 14 horse boarding business.  Since having our children diagnosed with their disabilities we have been connected to a community of parents who share our situation.  Since we are with the horses each day we have been able to start a hippotherapy clinic.  Hippotherapy is using PT, OT and Speech to use evidenced based practice in the purposeful manipulation of equine movement to engage sensory, neuromotor and cognitive systems to achieve functional outcomes.  This therapy is scarce in western Washington but very effective.  Unfortunately horses have a high cost associated with them due to their care and the insurance that covers such a facility.  We became connected with Empowerment Through Connection who offered to be a non profit partner in our journey to provide hippotherapy to children in the south puget sound region.  Funds raised will immediately help offer this therapy to families as it will help pay for the cost of the horse and facility.  We have many other ways to help, such as volunteering time helping out on the farm or with administrative duties, being a horse leader or sidewalker to make a treatment happen safely.  We would appreciate any donation in money and time to help children with disabilities experience this wonderful and effective therapy.
