Welcome to the Humane Society of Whitley County!
What began as a dream in 1998 for longtime Whitley County resident Emily Deutsch and local veterinarian Dr. Don Richey has become a magnificent reality! With help from several concerned citizens, the Humane Society of Whitley County opened its new animal shelter and adoption center in August of 2004.
We go through at least 400 pounds of cat litter a week, at least a gallon of bleach every day, and a file folder for every animal that comes through our door! We appreciate any and all donations from our amazing community!
Our population is always changing with new dogs and cats available for adoption. Each and every one of these animals deserves to find their people!
We are so appreciative of our dedicated volunteer base who help out with daily tasks as well as outside events and fundraisers! You could become a volunteer too!

It's been a long road to trusting humans but food is definitely the way to my heart and I will be flirting in no time with a little coaxing from a churu or a handful of treats. Once you've won me over, I will be all over you asking for more treats and pets and you'll be amazed I was ever even shy! I also have plenty of kitten in me still and love toys-straws or flimsy, long toys in general being my go-to. I do well with other cats, and perhaps a friendly and confident cat friend can help show me how great it is to be loved and spoiled in a home!
I am a very friendly husky girl I am a pretty typical husky, who loves to be outside running around, digging, and playing chase I am a little on the chunky side, and would benefit from regular exercise and a diet I have lived with kids, and did well with them I do have quite the prey drive, and need a home without cats or other small animals/livestock I am house broke and do great in the car
