HUNTINGTON - A popular Huntington bakery is planning to close.
Francois' Pastry Shop, which opened in 1999 as Torlone's Bakery when Francois Lethier partnered with the Torlone family, will close its doors for the last time at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31.
Lethier, 70, declined comment on why he's decided to close, but employee Michael Hofe, said the bakery will be missed by many.
"We have a cross section of customers - attorneys, doctors and other business people - who ask us to bake for them, from Kenova to Charleston and everywhere in between," he said.
Francois', located at 817 8th St., has been popular for its cakes, including wedding cakes, and its authentic French pastries.
"He's an original Frenchman from south of Paris," Hofe said.
Francois' also has done a lot of pastry catering and supplied Old Village Roaster in downtown Huntington.
