When you and your partner moved to a sleepy village in Yorkshire, you’d probably expect baked goods more than an abusive letter telling you that you're going to be "run out of the village".

However, this couple got just that.

If you thought that this attitude towards LGBT people is firmly in the past, have a read of this letter.

It says:

"This is a respectable village. We do not like gays living here, we do not want a load of gays coming and going day and night.

"We have heard about the partys (sic) you have, and the young lads you having staying the night.

"You only have young lads for one thing.

"You [are] a pair of s*** stabbers,

"You pair of dirty b*****ds,

"We will have you run out of the village.

"This is a warning so get this house up for sale and push off back where you came from, you are not welcome here.

"S*** stabbers."

The police are now believed to be investigating.

The most recent Stonewall homophobic hate crime report showed that one in six LGBT people have experienced a hate crime in the last five years.
