Eagles can’t sustain momentum, drop 3-0 decision at St. Mary’s

Brandon Little Axe took four of OC's 15 shots in the loss at St. Mary's.
Box Score SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 18, 2014) – After a decisive win over Dallas Baptist (Texas) earlier in the week, Oklahoma Christian hoped to carry that momentum into a four-game road swing against Heartland Conference foes.

But St. Mary's (Texas) made sure that didn't happen, jumping ahead with a goal in the first 10 minutes and pulling away for a 3-0 win over the Eagles on Saturday night.

St. Mary's (6-5-2, 3-2 Heartland) outshot OC (2-6-1, 1-2) by just a 21-15 count, but the Rattlers forced the Eagles to play catch-up for most of the game after Jack Wolf scored his sixth goal of the soccer season on a rebound shot in the 10th minute.

The Rattlers went up 2-0 in the 24th minute, with Alex Gonzalez assisting on a goal by Vinny Guerrero and sealed the win in the 83rd minute, when Daniel Sanchez sent in a cross and Kiernan Akers knocked it past OC goalkeeper Evan Helker from close range.

Brandon Little Axe and Seth Brown each took four of the Eagles' 15 shots.

Helker, the reigning Heartland defensive player of the week, made seven saves, while St. Mary's goalkeeper had four saves.

OC will try to rebound on Monday, when the Eagles visit Texas A&M International.
