Diary of a First Year Constable

The Weird and Wonderful Valley, Edition Four

We started our morning shift patrolling Fortitude Valley Division in a patrol car. The division includes the suburbs of Fortitude Valley, Bowen Hills, Newstead, Herston, New Farm, Teneriffe and parts of Spring Hill.

At this time of the morning most people are heading to work and the streets are busy so we kept to the back lanes of the Fortitude Valley. We didn’t expect to find anything too serious on a weekday morning but I suppose that’s the nature of this job, there’s always something different going on.

We found an odd couple hiding in the corner of a car park. They had a few bags with them full of property and they were in an area known for drug use.

We detained them both for a search and that’s when things got weird. My partner told the guy that he was detained and the first thing he did was rip his shorts off and hurl them onto the ground.

Unfortunately he wasn’t wearing anything else.

He was standing there stark naked in the car park, facing my partner. The car park was surrounded by office buildings with the windows facing us.

My partner directed him to “put his shorts back on”, which he did. He was later charged at the watchhouse.

My partner was a bit put out that everyone was more concerned with how I felt, when he was the one who copped the worst view!

We were just about to finish our shift when a call went out for a male person who was threatening other people with a knife. This was tasked as an urgent job.

I drove Code 2 again and felt a sense of déjà vu as we proceeded to the job address. We arrived simultaneously to another crew.

The specific address location was on a higher level of a multi accommodation complex so we proceeded up the stairwell. The hallways were narrow so we were going single file. We found the male person in the living room and we told him to get on the ground. We had information that he had a knife on him.

He didn’t follow our instructions initially but eventually complied.

We placed the handcuffs on him without any problems.

Information came to light that this was a prank call. Regardless if this was a prank or some kind of retribution, we have identified the offender and it will result in a court appearance.

I still can’t believe someone could be as stupid as to not only waste our resources but to put other people’s lives in danger with such a dangerous stunt.

I’m just glad that we know who the offender is and we can stop this stupidity.

Until next time, thanks for reading.

Cindy.
