Rick Santorum can't name any of Marco Rubio's accomplishments

On Wednesday, Rick Santorum ended his presidential bid and endorsed fellow Republican Marco Rubio.

On Thursday, Santorum appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe to tout his new guy. It did not go so well.

After introducing Santorum, host Joe Scarborough wasted no time: "What do you list as Marco Rubio's top accomplishment that made you decide to endorse him?"

“I would just say there’s a guy who’s been able to, number one, win a tough election in Florida and pull people together form a variety of different spots," Santorum said. "This is a guy who I think can work together with people."

But Scarborough wasn't having it.

"Can you name his top accomplishment in the Senate, actually working in the Senate, doing something, that tilted your decision to Marco Rubio?" Scarborough said.

Santorum smiled and shook his head before answering:

“If you look at being a minority in the United States Senate in four years when nothing got done, I guess it’s hard to say there were accomplishments. What happened during that four years that was accomplishment for anybody? It was a complete gridlock.”

Scarborough's co-host,  Mika Brzezinski, interjected.

“Hold on," she said. "This is disturbing.”

Scarborough and Santorum went back and forth on the question for roughly three minutes.

Eventually, Santorum recalled a recent effort to go "after the insurance companies in the most recent omnibus" after calling Scarborough's line of questioning "a bogus argument."

The bottom line is there isn’t a whole lot of accomplishments, Joe," Santorum said, "and I just don’t think it’s a fair question.”

That same morning, Republican candidate Chris Christie appeared on Fox News.

He, too, was asked about the qualifications of Rubio, whom he's now targeting in the day leading up to New Hampshire.

“No one, not even Marco Rubio's supporters, can name one accomplishment the has in his entire career," Christie said.
