Koel 3rd at MIAC Pentathlon

3/6/2015 7:57:00 AM

Gabby Koel had a solid, consistent effort all day long in the Pentathlon, the oopening event of the 2015 MIAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships in Moorhead.

And she was duly rewarded for her work.

The sophomore finished third -- earning All-Conference mention in the event -- finishing with 2717 points. That was just 83 behind second place Anna Skow-Anderson of Concordia -- and a major improvement on her freshman effort of a year ago when she placed ninth.

The pentathlon is an arduous one day affair in which a competitor takes part in five events in a short period of time. Koel's best finish was in the Shot Put where she threw 34-9, good for third place. She was seventh in the 800 Meter Run (2:36.56) and eighth in the 60 Meter Hurdles (10.38). She placed 10th in 15-competitor field in the Long Jump (13-0 1/2) and 11th in the High Jump (4-6).

Josi Hendrickson was 15th with 2114 points. The freshman's best effort came in the High Jump where she was fifth at 4-9 1/2 feet.

The rest of the meet starts today at Concordia College.
