CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell University softball team remains at No. 14 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll, which was released today. The Cougars have been ranked in all three regular-season polls this season and were 15th in the NFCA Preseason Poll released in January.
Caldwell, coached by
Dean Johnson, was 45-9 last year and advanced to the finals of the NCAA East Region Tournament. The Cougars have 13 players back from last year's team, including seniors
Sarah Almasy (Stratford, NJ/Sterling),
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda),
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) and
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea). Earlier this month, Caldwell was picked to win the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in the league's preseason poll after posting a 24-2 record in conference play last year.
Defending national-champion West Texas A&M remains No. 1 in the poll, followed by Valdosta State and Cal State Monterey Bay. Other East Region teams that appear in this week's poll are No. 10 LIU Post and Southern New Hampshire, which received votes. The Cougars play LIU Post on Mar. 14 and Apr. 7, while facing No. 25 Augustana on Mar. 17.
Caldwell opens the 2015 season at the St. Leo Tournament in St. Leo, Fla., on Mar. 13.
