'Zero Days,' 'Norman Lear' Set as Opening, Closing Films at AFI Docs

Alex Gibney‘s “Zero Days” and Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s “Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You” will be the opening and closing night films at AFI Docs, the American Film Institute’s annual documentary festival from June 22-26 in Washington.

The screening of both movies will be held t the Newseum, which is joining the festival this year as official gala screening partner. AT&T will be presenting sponsor.

“Zero Days” centers on Stuxnet, a self-replicating computer worm discovered in 2010 that was commissioned by the U.S. and Israeli governments to sabotage Iran’s nuclear program. Gibney will participate in a Q&A at the June 22 screening. He was honored in 2014 at the festival’s Charles Guggenheim Symposium and presented his movie “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine” last year.

“Norman Lear” chronicles the life and work of Lear, who will participate in a post screening discussion on June 26 with Ewing and Grady. The directors brought their movie “Jesus Camp” to the festival in 2006.
