Holly Hills Elementary School
Class Information:
Students per Class: 700
Class Description:
The Hollys (a K-2 & 3-5 school) are schools with possibly the most diverse population in the state of Colorado. With students from over 21 different countries, it's amazing to see and learn from the global village that lives within our school!
Position:
tech teacher
Needs:
Parents are proud to send their children to school in the best district in the state of Colorado where they get a great education from hard-working, caring teachers. But both schools are title 1 schools, which means that 80% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. And while the students come eager to learn, their loving families do not have the ability to provide the same kind of resources as other schools in our district. As the technology teacher at The Hollys, I want to ensure that our students have the same opportunity to learn using 21st century tools that will help them develop the kind of skills they will need in a 21st century world. Thanks for supporting them!
My Philosophy:
I believe in the Constructivist Learning Theory, inquiry, the power of project based-learning, and that students need to create. So if you ask me what app you should use in your classroom, my response is that it's not so much about the tool you use, but how you use it. Whether in the classroom or the tech lab, the goal is the same–getting kids to use higher order thinking skills. We want them to create with technology!

Favorite Quotes:
"Building a culture in which teachers encourage and support and encourage each other in the use of technology promotes lasting changes in practice." ~Levin 2008 "I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can still do something; I will not refuse to do the something I can do." ~Helen Keller

Why Do I Teach?:
Literacy and differentiation have always been my passions in education, and a few years ago I added technology to the list. I love the way technology differentiates for EVERY learner and allows for learning in a way that was never dreamed possible before. A year or two after my son was born, I left the classroom and started teaching technology to students and teachers. These days,I focus on practical ways to integrate technology into the classroom, with a lot of integration from my first loves–literacy and differentiation!
