Daily Sketch: Youthful Catnip Victims
From 2014 when Basil was still called Smokie and Bella was the trusted big sister, two full months older. Who remembers laughing along with Reefer Madness?
It’s true. Bella has discovered catnip in a big way and can’t wait to get her paws on any catnip toy. And when she does, she pays no attention at all to Smokie. She especially likes her Flower Power Mousie and her Psychedelic Sharkie, but really, anything will do. Which will eventually lead to “acts of desperation and violence…hilarity and swooning”, and a cat who is “likely to do anything”. Or maybe she’ll slip into stupefaction “of an imbecile-lethargic kind”. Sad but true.
Yes, they are VERY fun and funny to watch! The other cartoon for tonight was Giuseppe on a box and Jelly Bean on the bed, box seats to watch the GREAT CHASE as the blurs Smokie and Bella ran back and forth and back and forth past the boys in a non-stop game of chase. Or Giuseppe’s expression at watching them wrestle: “Did we do that?” Ah, youth.

“Don’t act like you’re dead. We know dead things. We’re cats.”
Yeah, this is pretty much what I saw when I woke up this morning. I may have slept a little later than usual, but not by much. I could only see two over the edge of the covers, Giuseppe’s ears and Mr. Sunshine’s baleful eye, but I could feel that all five were there. And they were sitting very still and watching me.

And sometimes, I just throw my hands in the air and have fun!
So, Bella has discovered catnip, eh? None of my kitties ever really got into the stuff but I saved the last container of it after I lost Molly 18 months ago. Can’t seem to say goodbye to it – along with the ball from the cat track. You know how that goes. Hope you and the furballs have a Happy Thanksgiving Bernadette!
