Over the past 10 years our school has changed from serving an upper middle class district to one in a high poverty area. The students who enter the AP program are those who are more likely seeking to avoid the loss of time that comes from maintaining discipline in the grade level classrooms. These are the kids who want to be challenged, want to learn, and want to be the leaders of the student body. They are a fantastic and diverse group with heritages that span the globe. They are choir kids, jocks, and the "nerds" who spend lunch reading in a corner, but when they come into my AP Literature class they are a single community, a group that works with and helps one another in every way.

About my class
