VOICE OF THE SCOUT

Message from the Council Commissioner

This fall, a survey will be conducted by our national organization to assist in analyzing opinions about Scouting here in Oklahoma.  This survey is called “The Voice of the Scout.”  The survey will be sent to a random group of volunteer leaders and parents and you may be one of those selected to take the survey.  If you receive an email please take a couple of minutes and complete the survey.
This survey generates a “Net Promoter Score” based on responses to questions asking how likely you are to recommend Scouting to a potential new youth member or potential new volunteer,   I hope that you will join me in answering this question with a ranking of 9 or 10, as either will indicate that you care enough about Scouting to recommend its services to others. Please remember – this is NOT a survey about your opinion of the Last Frontier Council’s volunteer leadership or professional staff. If you have concerns about either, the way to be sure these are addressed is through the Council’s Talent Management Committee. As a member of that committee, I can assure you we listen to your concerns.
Through the Voice of the Scout Survey, we want our community to see that those of us who sacrifice our time for Scouting are proud of the program that we provide to the youth of Oklahoma and support its continuing efforts to that end.
Sincerely,

Bob Spinks
Council Commissioner
Last Frontier Council

MEMBERSHIP

Every Youth Should Have an Opportunity to JOIN!!!

Giving every youth the opportunity to join scouting and benefit from the program should be part of every units plan.  A plan which should include fall and spring recruitment. Currently, Districts are conducting Boy Talks in Schools and School Sign-up Nights.

Every unit should plan a recruiting night, and every youth should bring a friend to have fun.  Every Troop and Venturing Crew should plan an Open House event in September, or early October.  Look for opportunities such as Community Events, Fall Fairs, Family Nights, or other Community Gathering, to set up a table and share and invite youth to join your unit.

For more information, or to request support materials such as flyers, contact your District Membership Chairman, or your District Executive.

To find their contact information at the Last Frontier Council website, District Pages CLICK HERE.

POPCORN
Your Unit Can Still Participate in Popcorn Sales.

The popcorn sale is off to a great start.  Many units reported that they sold most of their Show and Sell Popcorn the very first weekend.  All units can still participate in the Take Order Program. This is a great way to fund your Program, and meet your unit Budget needs.

A Scout is Thrifty - this means a lot more than putting pennies away.  A scout learns and understands Fiscal Responsibility, being responsible for and sharing in Unit Plan to make the Scouting Adventure happen for his unit.

Get signed up and participate contact your District Popcorn Kernel or your District Executive.
To find their contact information at the Last Frontier Council website, District Pages CLICK HERE.

The next due date in the popcorn campaign is for the units that got Show and Sell Popcorn.  The due date to turn in your money for Show and Sell popcorn is September 21, 2015 by 5pm at either the Gaylord Scout Service Center in OKC or at Laura Fields Scout Center in Lawton.  If you have any questions concerning Show and Sell Payments, please email Kahlil Hooks at Kahlil.Hooks@scouting.org
