Activists in Texas this week protested what they called anti-gay "hate speech" that was being blasted over loud speakers at a tent revival in a Lubbock public park.
Earlier this week, video posted on social media captured part of a sermon about homosexuality at The Door Christian Fellowship Church's nightly tent revival at Leroy Elmore Park.
"I still believe that God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve," the pastor says in the video. "I don't care who told you it's okay, God says it's an abomination."
"A fag is still a fag, and a dike is still a dike!" he shouts. "If it walks like a duck and if it quacks like a duck, it's a cotton-picking duck!"
"And I can't stand men saying, 'I need to get in touch with my feminist side!' Have you looked in the mirror, brother? Don't get me going!"
Pastor Anthony Saavedra told KCBD that the church had obtained all of the necessary permits to hold the revival, and he defended the message against homosexuality.
"We preach on sin in general in the eyes of God," Saavedra explained. "Sin is sin. Homosexuality is the part that is being mentioned, which the bible does say is an abomination…and we do believe it is a sin."
But protesters who showed up on Wednesday opposed the use of loud speakers to spread hate speech in the park.
"They have a sound system, I just don't believe hate should be spread this way," demonstrator Lindsey Vrias insisted. "Like, especially through religious reasons."
