Sailfish Outmaneuver Griffins in Season Opener

Box Score West Palm Beach, Fla. - (9/4/2015) – Chestnut Hill College put their best foot forward in this evening's season opener at Palm Beach Atlantic University, but the Sailfish netted a 5-0 victory on 42 shots. Freshman midfielder Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.), sophomore forward Rachel Gilborges (Philadelphia, Pa.), and sophomore forward Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) each recorded a shot, but only Jazikoff put hers on goal for the Griffins.

Palm Beach Atlantic University (1-0) overpowered Chestnut Hill College (0-1) from the opening kickoff, gaining their initial advantage on a pair of strikes from freshman forward Jaime Montgomery (Gaithersburg, Md.). She connected for her first goal off a pass from junior midfielder Bridget Wollrabe (San Diego, Calif.) less than 15 minutes into the contest (14:14) and doubled the Sailfish lead with her second goal only seven minutes later (21:50) on a long pass from sophomore midfielder Nicole Schaffer (Jacksonville, Fla.), 2-0. The Sailfish overwhelmed the Griffins in the second half, adding three more goals for a decisive 5-0 final.

For the Sailfish, junior goalkeeper Kayla Wincko (Coconut Creek, Fla) earned the win (1-0), but freshman goalkeeper Brianna Spence (South Brunswick, N.J.) made their only save. Meanwhile, senior goalkeeper Kayla Reno (Cantonsville, Md.) recorded 12 saves in the loss for Chestnut Hill College. Senior midfielder Kasey Wyer (Greer, S.C.) matched Montgomery's first half effort with two second half goals while the fifth Sailfish goal came from freshman midfielder Shannon Berg (Red Hook, N.Y.).  

The Griffins remain in Florida at Palm Beach Atlantic University for an 11:00 a.m. contest versus Oakland City University on Sunday, September 6.
