Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. (Feb. 13, 2016) –
Bradley Horn's power pitching, combined with Oklahoma Christian's strong hitting, outmatched Washburn (Kan.) on Saturday in the Southern Arkansas Invitational.
Horn struck out 12 batters and OC pounded out 14 hits as the Eagles beat Washburn 7-3 at Goodheart Field, salvaging the final game of their three-game trip to Arkansas.
Kyle Lacy homered and had two RBIs for OC (4-3), which had lost to Central Missouri and No. 14 Southern Arkansas on Friday.
Horn (1-0), a transfer from Dayton, made his second start in an OC uniform a memorable one, allowing only five hits, overcoming one bad inning and improving as the game progressed. He struck out the side in both the fifth and sixth innings and ended his seven-inning stint by picking Washburn's J.B. Eary off first base.
The Eagles jumped on Washburn starter Mike Hefferan (1-1) for six hits and four runs in the top of the fourth inning, with
Austin Orth and
Robert Rosser each delivering an RBI single, Lacy bring home another run on a bases-loaded walk and
Jared Sterling hitting a sacrifice fly.
The Ichabods answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, recording four of their five hits against Horn in the inning. Riley Krane and Kyle Carnahan opened the inning with doubles and Lance Barkley later added an RBI single. But Horn and relievers
Jake Collins and
Dylan Fazekas shut down the Ichabods the rest of the way.
OC extended its lead with a two-run sixth, with Sterling's RBI double to left-center field the big blow. Lacy added a solo home run over the right-field wall in the eighth, his third longball of the season.
The Eagles will visit longtime rival Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday before hosting Northwest Missouri State for a three-game series starting next Friday.
