Law enforcement arrested Stephen Broderick, who is accused of fatally shooting three victims in northwest Austin on Sunday, as details about two of the victims were released.

Broderick, 41, was detained without incident after police received a 911 call about a man walking around U.S. Route 290 near Manor, Texas, on Monday morning. He was carrying a loaded pistol on his waistband at the time of the arrest, police said.

Broderick, the suspect in a triple homicide, is a former Travis County Sheriff’s Office detective who was accused of sexually assaulting a child in June 2020, authorities told the Washington Examiner on Monday.

He was arrested by the department on June 6, 2020, and charged with the sexual assault of a child. Broderick resigned from the Property Crimes Unit division of the law enforcement agency last year following his arrest.

Elgin Independent School District identified Alyssa Broderick and Willie Simmons as two of the shooting victims on Monday.

THREE DEAD AFTER SHOOTING IN AUSTIN, SUSPECT IDENTIFIED

“Our sincere condolences go out to the families and friends of these fine young adults,” Elgin High School Principal Ricardo Reyes wrote in a Facebook post.

Alyssa Broderick was a student in the school district from 2009 to October 2020 and was reportedly a member of the school’s basketball team. Simmons was a senior at Elgin High School and was slated to play football for the University of North Texas.

“As a tight-knit community, events such as these deeply affect us all,” Reyes said, announcing a sign-up form for students to seek counseling following the deaths.

On Sunday, investigators said all the victims involved were adults. Police have not confirmed the identities of the victims.

Austin Police Department interim Chief Joseph Chacon said one witness to the shooting was a child, but he said in an afternoon update that “the child is safe.”

Police elevated the search of the area to a “fugitive search” as the suspect remained at large throughout Sunday.
