New Haven, Conn. – (5/6/2016) – Placing second or first in their respective events at the recently completed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Track and Field Championship Tournament, the following Griffins earned All-CACC status; sophomore
Giancarlo Martines (Cherry Hill, N.J.), and freshmen
Raquel Lopez (East Meadow, N.Y.),
Amy Lombard (Pennsauken, N.J.), and
Erica Waleski (Rockville Centre, N.Y.).
A pair of first place finishes from sophomore
Giancarlo Martines (Cherry Hill, N.J.) headlined fifth place (5
th of 9, 70 points) effort for the Chestnut Hill College men. The team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) returned to the All-CACC Team for the second time in as many years with the league's top times in the 1,500-Meter 4:06.09) and 5,000-Meter (16:18.94) and a total of 20 points split between the events. Martines' other eight points came in the 800-Meter, where his second place time of 1:58.60 also garner All-CACC status and led three other Griffins.
The Chestnut Hill College women's track and field team also finished fifth (5
th of 10, 48 points) in the championship meet and placed three Griffins on the All-CACC squad. Respective second place finishes in the 10,000-Meter (42:39.65), 3,000-Meter Steeplechase (12:57.85), and 400-Meter Hurdle (1:15.58) by Lombard, Lopez
, and Waleski. Lopez's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase performance earned the Griffins 13 of their 48 points. Lombard's run of 42:39.65 in the 10,000-Meter set a new program mark and earned the Scarlet and Gold eight points. As did Waleski's run of 1:15.58 in the 400-Meter Hurdle.
Host, Georgian Court University won both sides of the CACC Championship with 238 points in the women's competition and 242 points in the men's.
