Ranchi: A 13-year-old girl, who is hailing from Jharkhand's Gumla district, was rescued by Delhi Police in Gurgaon on Monday night. Police said she was trafficked around 15 days ago by a man she had met at her cousin's home. She was found loitering on the streets by a local, who claimed she worked as a domestic help in Jaipur. The girl reportedly managed to flee after being tortured by her employers.
The local, according to police, reported the matter to NGO Shakti Vahini.
The NGO, in turn took her to Gurgaon child welfare committee. During the counselling by CWC, the teenager revealed that she was given money and a train ticket by a stranger to travel from Jaipur to Gurgaon.
The girl identified the man who trafficked her to Jaipur as Rajkumar, whom she had met at her cousin's home in Palkot. "After meeting him, she consented to travelling with Rajkumar to meet her sister in Gurgaon. Later, she was sent to Jaipur to work as a domestic help," Rishi Kant of Shakti Vahini told TOI.
The teenager alleged that she was "physically harassed and starved by her employers everyday". CWC Gurgaon chairperson Shakuntala Dhull said, "The girl is traumatised. She is unable to reveal more details about her employers. She has been sent to a shelter home for now. Counselling will begin again once she is stable."
Rishi Kant said a large number of girls from Jharkhand are being trafficked to Rajasthan regularly. "A powerful inter-state trafficking ring is active in Jharkhand, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. The family has been informed about her ordeal, and they will reach Gurgaon soon," Kant said.
