Publisher's summary

Paul Williams is an alcoholic. Tracey Jackson is not. But together, these two close friends have written Gratitude and Trust, a book designed to apply the principles of the recovery movement to the countless people who are not addicts but nevertheless need effective help with their difficulties and pain.

Williams, the award-winning songwriter, actor, and performer, has embraced a traditional alcoholism recovery plan for more than two decades of sobriety. Jackson, a well-known TV and film writer - and veteran of many years of traditional therapy - has never been a drunk or a drug abuser, but she realized that many of the tenets of Williams’s program could apply to her. In Gratitude and Trust, Williams and Jackson ask: What happens to those who struggle with vexing problems yet are not full-blown addicts? Are there any lessons to be learned from the foundational and time-tested principles of the recovery movement?

Whether you’re tethered to your phone or you turn to food for comfort; whether you’re a perfectionist and can’t let things go or are too afraid to fail to even try; whether you can find intimacy only on the Internet or you’ve been involved in a string of nasty relationships - the first step toward feeling better about yourself and your life is the realization that you are what’s standing in your way. Williams and Jackson have designed a new, positive program, based on a half-dozen new affirmations, that can help conquer your vices, address personal dysfunction, and start to brighten the darkest moods. Gratitude and Trust is an essential, inspirational, and uplifting guide to identifying and changing maladaptive behaviors in order to uncover your most productive, healthiest self.

Critic reviews

“Self-help books can be so woo woo and annoying. Gratitude and Trust is the brilliant exception. This life-affirming book is bursting with wicked insights, bravado and wit.”—Simon Doonan, author of The Asylum

Thank you.

I am grateful to Paul and Tracey for giving my subconscious a voice. Chris Hardwick's podcast The Nerdist was when I first heard of this book, and since then it has been gratifying.

The Spiral Down Up

It doesn’t matter what kind of abuse you suffer from, most times, through your travels, you eventually realize you have become abusive to yourself. But you realize eventually what you need and what you don’t need. This book helps you open your eyes. Have a pen and paper ready and take notes. The most important words don’t get repeated.

This book was amazing! Sincere, funny, inspiring..

This book was amazing and so well presented by these two authors. They were warm, sincere, hilarious and down right the real deal without being preachy. Even the biggest skeptics of 12 step philosophy could swallow this. Paul and Tracey accomplished their goal: to reach ALL people (not just substance abusers) who struggle with addiction, in a caring, funny and yet firm way. Their own stories showed the validity of what they spoke and I will gladly practice what they spoke and will share this with all those I know who struggle from the grip of fear, control and all addictive behavior, besides those struggling from substance abuse.
Thank you, Paul and Tracey, for following your intuition AND heart to write this book for EVERYBODY! 💗 A true gift.

Good Medicine for Mending Pain and Starting Anew

Where does Gratitude and Trust rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favorites, read by the authors, and with their wonderful doses of authenticity. No psychobabble here.

What did you like best about this story?

Hearing from Paul and Tracey put a personal spin on the shared emotions and mal-adaptive behaviors that are examined so intensely in this book. No judgment, just clear, concise facts and a clear road map to recovery.

What about Tracey Jackson and Paul Williams ’s performance did you like?

Paul's voice is soothing and he's naturally funny. His pain is real, his recovery is admirable. His truth is awesome. Passing the baton to Tracey made the listening much more engaging. Tracey's stories of her addictions to other than drugs and alcohol resonated deeply.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Gratitude and Trust?

The 6 affirmations dovetail uniquely and perfectly for me. There's no need to self-sabotage, and although it's nice to hear from others who have suffered that behavior, the message of Gratitude and Trust is the huge, open, world of happiness available to me.

Make your Bad Ass Rainbow Connection!

This is no touchy-feely self help book, this is a challenging, tough love boot camp of an audiobook. Paul Williams is a stud!!! He knows what it’s like to step up and deliver, he’s actually done something in this world besides besides maybe get an academic degree and co write a book, and that makes all the difference. #GratitudeAndTrust
