Canada has the worst climate change record - followed by Australia

Canada last among industrialised nations in a new climate change performance index. Australia second last...

A report released by Germanwatch, a sustainable development advocacy group, has ranked industrialised nations in a new climate change performance index.

Canada, who have stalled moving forward with climate policy are the worst performer of all industrialised countries. However, Australia, are close behind as the second worst performer, not something to be proud of. With no policy to reduce carbon emissions in place, perhaps we're not too far away from being at the bottom of the list.

The index takes into account a variety of indicators related to greenhouse gas emissions such as:

  1. - Development of emissions
  2. - Climate policy
  3. - Renewable energy
  4. - and energy efficiency

This won't come as a surprise to many Australians, especially right now as we pressure our government into even including climate change on the G20 agenda. The upcoming G20 summit to be held in Brisbane this November, unlike previous G20 meetings, will not have climate change on the agenda.

Despite pressure from numerous groups, the Abbott government has stressed that economic growth will be the primary focus of the talks.
