Fire 648 in Open Rounds of Argonaut Invitational

Madiison Alexander fired a 77 in the opening round of the Argonaut Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. – When play begins in the final round of the (West Florida) Argonaut Invitational on Tuesday morning, the Lee University women's golf team will be trailing tournament leader Florida Southern by 29 strokes.

The Lady Flames fired opening rounds of 317 - 331 (648) at the Stonebrook Golf Club on Monday. Florida Southern, paced by medalist co-leader Emily Rymer (72-75 - 147)) finished the 36-hole day at 307-312 - 619. Limestone College (S.C.) stands in second place (310-311 - 621). Florida Tech (310-312 - 622) and West Georgia (312-312 - 622) are deadlocked for third and host West Florida is 12 strokes in front of Lee (314-320 - 634).

Lee's scoring after the first 18 was paced by senior Madison Alexander. She recorded a 77, but slipped to 85 during Monday's last 18 and finished at 162. Sam Burrus was the most consistent Lady Flame with rounds of 79-78 - 157. The freshman is tied for 12th place. Bernadette Little started the day with a 78 and then ballooned to an 87 and is at 165. Cailey Gino carded an 86 and a 82, good for a 168. Caroline Moore followed with an 83-86 - 169.

Florida Southern's Rymer (72-75 - 147) and West Georgia's Lola Uribe Astolfi (74-73) are battling it out for medalist honors. Limestone's Hannah Luckett (77-76 -153), Florida Tech's Johanna Larsson (75-78) and West Florida's Lauren Lamm (73-80) are all tied for third.

A total of 12 teams and 68 individual golfers are taking part in the two-day, 54-hole event.
