PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The University of Valley Forge Softball Team played a double-header against Trinity Washington University for the second time in three days on Sunday. Both games were very lopsided, with the Patriots coming out on top in each, 20-1 and 21-0.
The Patriots' hitting overwhelmed Trinity from the get-go. Seniors
Amanda McGinness and
Sarah Brugere each finished game one with a perfect 4 for 4 effort from the plate. The pair combined to rack up 8 RBI's, two doubles, three triples, and scored seven runs. Sophomores Jolyn Jones and
Rachel Daniels each had three hits.
Emily Cantrell and
Samantha Reed each had two hits, with Cantrell also knocking in 5 runs. Daniels pitched a complete game without giving up an earned run.
Game two saw much of the same from the Patriots at the plate. Freshman
Naomi Thompson went a perfect 5 for 5 from the plate, including a double, triple, and 5 RBI's.
Samantha Reed had a big game as well, going 4 for 5 with a double and 4 RBI's. Jolyn Jones,
Amanda McGinness, and
Rachel Daniels each had three hits.
Naomi Thompson earned her first win of her career from the mound in game two. She pitched a complete game shut-out and only gave up three hits.
For the season, the Patriots moved to 5-13 overall. Their next home contest will be a double-header against East Region opponent Baptist Bible College on Wednesday, April 22nd at 4PM.
