Single Spotlight: Jonathan Simkhai at Neiman Marcus

Hello dears,

There have been several fun events at Neiman Marcus recently, and I was hoping to keep you up t date with recaps for all of them, but I have decided to be a bit more selective and only recap my favorite fun ones! I recently attended an event in honor of designer Jonathan Simkhai that Neiman's threw, complete with a DJ, champagne, and fittings in many of his creations. One of which was this fabulous white dress, recently worn Rachel Mcadams on the cover of People StyleWatch's May issue and on Scarlett Johanssen in Cosmo - see images below!

Of course, I love his dresses and they are certainly quite fabulous, however the talented young man has to work on his sizing and fit a little bit. I fit into a size ten dress, really! Me! I am normally a four and have been for the past fifteen years, and I'm not really one to pay attention to sizes, because if something looks good on me I will just buy it. However, this irked me a little, and I did speak to him about the fact that women in general don't want to feel like they have to go up a size... or in this case, three sizes!

If someone is a four and the brand runs small, so alright you pick up a six. But when I had to squeeze into a size ten - what will the real size eight or ten gals do? This was the question I asked the young designer, and the sales people on the floor. The NM sales team answered that "real size eight and ten girls will not be buying these dresses, because he doesn't make a size larger than ten." Really? Why would someone deliberately eliminate 90% of this country's women?

Anyways, although the dresses are truly lovely, I hesitated from ordering them - even though I really wanted to order the black embroidered mesh dress which I'm wearing below. I was told I would need a size eight or ten, and it was not in stock. Who knows when it will be? I am however looking forward to seeing this very young and talented designer develop into a fabulous brand. Best of luck, dear Jonathan, and please make some dresses for us real women!

Xo, G
