A Dakota City Fire and Rescue volunteer Firefighter collapsed and died while preparing to leave the scene of a fire Thursday evening. Emergency responders on the scene made numerous attempts to revive Andrew "Andy" Zalme without success, the release said. The exact cause of death wasn't known and will require medical tests.
Zalme, 42, a longtime member of the department, was with crews that had responded to a fire on Highway 35. The Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association said in a statement he will be greatly missed by the organization and the city. Survivors include his wife, Bobbi, and three children. Funeral arrangements were pending Friday. KTIYP's. RIP.
