McBride Delivers in Griffins Duel With Devils

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/30/2014) – Sophomore outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) reached the 20-kill mark for the first time this season and the third time in her career, leading the Chestnut Hill College in a 3-0 (27-25, 25-14, 25-20) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph at the University of the Sciences (USciences). She totaled 23.5 points in all, scoring three aces and a block assist in her best performance of the season.
 
Chestnut Hill College (9-8, 4-2) used the momentum of a 27-25 opening-set victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead with a 25-14 win in the second set. USciences (1-6, 0-4) provided a little more competition in the third set, delaying the Griffins to a 25-20 win.
 
Caitlyn Crawford (Covington, Ohio) led the Devils with 11 kills on a .310 (11K-2E-29TA) hitting percentage and three aces. Senior setter Kaileen Bevenour (Sicklerville, N.J.) also scored three aces while supplying 19 assists. Defensively, four Devils finished in double figures. Sophomore defensive specialist Christine Irrera (Royersford, Pa.) led the group with 20 digs.
 
McBride was complimented up front by junior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.), who offered 11 kills and two block assists to the winning effort, and supported by junior setter Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.), who supplied 38 assists to them and the rest of the Griffin attack. That being, freshmen middle hitters Melissa Shunk (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.) who combined for 11 kills and three of the Griffins five blocks. Sophomore libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.), and junior defensive specialists, Meghan Chiovitti (Brighton, Colo.) and Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.), all recorded double-digit digs. Trabosh led the trio with 18 while Chiovitti added three aces to her defensive effort.
 
The women's volleyball team returns home to host Felician College in a 1:00 p.m. CACC match on Saturday, October 4.
