A revised seasonal forecast for the Prairies is calling for potentially cooler than normal temperatures in southern Manitoba.

"The seasonal forecasts, both from Environment Canada and from the National Weather Service, are no longer showing warmer than normal trends,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Natalie Hasell.

She warns against putting too much stock in seasonal forecasts, saying they can be tricky to predict, but she admits the next three months are not looking good.

"They're monitoring the temperature and the pressure patterns over the Pacific and things are not progressing quite the way they expected it earlier this year,” said Hasell.

The Downtown Biz says it can be difficult for its members to draw customers downtown in the winter, particularly when it is cold, but a plan is in the works to change that.

"In 2015, we're planning ways to celebrate winter by getting restaurants to create winter patios,” said Jason Syvixay, of the Downtown Biz.

The list of participating businesses has yet to be finalized, but the goal is to have enough restaurants involved to host a tour of the winter patios they create.

"A one week or two week celebration where people can really check out downtown and check out and support some of our businesses,” said Syvixay.
