Of mists and mellow fruitfulness...
Last September Britain’s best-loved contempoary poet, Roger McGough, joined us to lead a week of poetic endeavour here in the lovely mountain village of Treignac.  We were an eclectic mix of veteran and would-be poets, joined by a conceptual artist, a masterful amateur musician and a well-known professional actor.  All joined in enthusiastically as Roger evoked the early-Autumn muse here in our medieval, quintessentially French village.

The manor house...

The retreat was held in the charming, 19thC manor house that dominates the Place de la Republique in the centre of Treignac.  Following breakfast of fresh croisant, crusty country bread, preserves and fruit we cleared the decks for the morning workshops in the elegant dining room.

After the fierce heat of the summer, September rolled in rather cool so working out on the terrace was less attractive and some days a cosy fire was welcome.  Although it is typical of this changeable, mountain climate that hot weather returned the following week.  But the distant hills were clear beyond the garden throughthe elegant long windows and helped keep the feeling of tranquility.

Who was it for...

Designed for novice poets and experienced bards alike, we were an electic mix of published and proflific amateurs poets alongside musician, actors and artists.  Twelve poets in all this was the perfect groups siz to enjoy creativity and companionship in this lovely, inspirational mountain setting.
