Why this petition matters

Started by Rudy Bean

I am a survivor of domestic violence and need your help to raise awareness on this growing epidemic that has plagued our nation. I am calling on the United States Postal Service to issue a stamp using the No More symbol as a means of starting a dialogue and bringing attention to the millions of men and women in our country who desperately need our help.

The No More symbol means a lot to me because when he was beating me and verbally assaulting me, I actually cried out “no more – stop – I can't take any more!”

For me, leaving him was saying No More.

Crying out for help was saying No More.

Working with advocates to heal and to better myself was saying No More.

Sharing my story with my community and others is saying No More.

These two little words say it all: No More.

The CDC reports that on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. From this same survey, 1 in 5 women are survivors of rape; 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men have experienced some form of sexual violence in their lives.

No More is a unifying symbol and movement to raise public awareness and engage bystanders to end domestic violence and sexual assault. It was created by a coalition of leading advocacy groups, service providers, the U.S. Department of Justice and major corporations, and is supported by hundreds of national and local groups, organizations, universities, and communities who are using its signature blue symbol to increase visibility for domestic violence and sexual assault. The goal of the movement is to break down the barriers of stigma, silence and shame that keep people from talking about these issues and taking action to prevent them.

The USPS can join the chorus of people calling for action and say No More.

Join me and NoMore.org, along with other survivors, advocates, and families and friends of victims across the nation, in petitioning the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee to issue a stamp with the “No More” image. Our children deserve no less than our dedication to stop the violence.

In August of this year I will mark my 11th year being free from the bounds of domestic violence. Please sign my petition and join me in saying No More.

Thank you for your support!
