KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Six people were honored Wednesday night at the Marriott Downtown – Muehlebach Tower during the sold out 42nd Kansas City Sports Commission Awards Banquet.
The six honorees are:
Waddell & Reed Executive of the Year:
Dayton Moore, Senior Vice President-Baseball Operations / General Manager of the Kansas City Royals
Kansas City Life Sportswoman of the Year:
Bobbi Walden, National Powerlifting Champion & Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army
Kansas City Marriott Downtown Sportsman of the Year:
Shane Ray, 2014 SEC Defensive Football Player of the Year from the University of Missouri
Burns & McDonnell Coach of the Year:
Mike Talamantes, Park University Men’s and Women’s Head Volleyball Coach for NAIA National Champion Teams
Sprint Co-Community Champion:
Nick Hibbeler, Park Hill High School Soccer Player & Cancer Survivor

Sprint Co-Community Champion:
Mike Grossner, Baker University Head Football Coach & Cancer Survivor
Some of the attendees include University of Missouri Football Coach Gary Pinkel, University of Kansas new Football Coach Clint Bowen, former University of Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden, Kansas Speedway President Pat Warren and No. 2 American professional tennis player Jack Sock who just won the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship and the 2014 Wimbledon Doubles.
Also in attendance will be representatives from the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, Sporting KC, NAIA, K-State, UMKC, Park University and Baker University.
“This sold-out event is an opportunity to celebrate all levels of sports in Kansas City including professional sports and collegiate sports to youth clinics and local sports celebrities,” said Kathy Nelson, President & CEO. “We will also honor six deserving individuals for their contribution to sport.”
