MORE than 25 deprived pupils from Hartswater, received school uniforms and shoes recently. Northern Cape Transport, Safety and Liaison department spokesperson, Keitumetse Moticoe said that the donation will assist many school children in the area.
Moticoe further said it was imperative to ensure that school children have warm clothes for winter.
“We identified underprivileged children at Ted Caster Intermediate School. Their lives will be changed for the better and the aim of this initiative was to ensure that we improve their lives in pursuit of them getting educated.
“We donated winter jackets, shoes, jerseys, trousers, skirts, shirts, long winter socks and beanies. We saw the need when visiting the school last year. We donated sanitary towels to assist young girls who were unable to attend school during their cycle due to lack of the sanitary products,” she said.
Moticoe added that some of the learners were attending school without shoes, jerseys, long pants or jackets. She said they felt compelled to do something to assist them.
Mama Lekwene, Gender Desk said “It was also a way of taking social responsibility in building a caring society. Therefore, we requested all senior managers and staff to donate winter school uniforms.
“We received great support from a local company called Meriting Company. The company donated school uniform worth R10 000. The children we grateful and expressed their appreciation to the staff members.”
