This Week in Seahawk Baseball (April 20)

Golden Named CAA Player-of-the-Week
22650
Casey Golden hit .400 for the week and
knocked in the go-ahead runs in the opener and
series finale of UNCW's sweep at Hofstra.
The Seahawks continue their winning ways as they moved into the lead in the Colonial Athletic Association with a weekend sweep on the road at Hofstra. UNCW also extended its winning streak to 10 games with the sweep. It's the longest winning streak since the 2008 season when UNCW reeled of 21 consecutive wins on its way to a school-record 44 wins.

Casey Golden became the fifth Seahawk to earn CAA weekly honors after hitting .400 with four doubles and a home run over the weekend at Hofstra. Golden slammed a two-run shot that proved to be the difference in the opener and doubled home the go-ahead runs in the top of the ninth in the finale for a 5-3 Seahawk win.

In the national polls/rankings, the Seahawks moved up to 22nd in the D1Baseball poll and is one spot out of the top-25 in the USAToday/Coaches Poll. In the NCAA RPI report, UNCW improved four places to 24th following a 3-0 week.

UNCW host North Carolina on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference game between a pair of nationally-ranked opponents. The Seahawks return to CAA play this weekend when they head to conference newcomer Elon for a three-game series opening at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

UNCW moved to the top of the CAA standings as preseason favorite College of Charleston dropped the finale at Delaware. The Seahawks lead the Cougars by percentage points. Elon and William & Mary are tied for third in the CAA followed by Northeastern and Towson to round out the top-six of the league. Only the top six make the CAA Championship tournament hosted by Charleston in late May.
